When you observe street interviews, you will notice that a sort of power in relationship between an interviewer and an interviewee. A camera is pointed at you, and you are being recorded, and you are suddenly asked to talk about your thoughts and values. There is a sense of violence and unnaturalness in these interviews, and I think this is emphasized by a camera, a device that creates a special relationship. The interviewee gets the message what he/she is expected to answer and he/she talks thinking how he/she is caught on the camera so that you can hear their appropriate model answer as if you have heard somewhere. In these interviews, I can’t help feeling a sign of a story we unconsciously are affected by. I focus on the strange structure of the street interviews, switching camera viewpoints, revealing this relationship and deliberately shaking it.
